Demolition

Demolition? Really? Yes, it’s entirely possible that you may find yourself in a city, or on a piece of land that someone else already started working on. You may find that whatever it was they built or installed doesn’t fit your needs. For those times, keep these things in mind:

  • Salvage. If you can use it, do.
  • Recycle concrete: break it up and use it for paths, use it for backfill, or use it to build your root cellar walls.
  • If you run into asbestos (9”x9” tiles in the kitchen?) or other hazardous materials, do yourself and us all a favor and hire someone to remove it so you can keep it out of your lungs, the air, the landfills and your water.
  • If you are removing only certain parts or sections of a structure, build a frame wall and  then put plastic sheeting on the frame, to keep dust out of the rest of the building.

Testimonials

"I just want to thank you for doing such a wonderful job on the article. I was nervous, of course, but you put me at ease immediately and I really felt very comfortable with you. The article was fun to read (is that really me?) and I have gotten some wonderful comments on it. Your sensitivity to design and me as an individual was obvious."
Donna La Furgey, Architectural Designer
