Archaeo-architecture

habs1thumbWhat is archaeo-architecture anyway?

It's Archaeology + Architecture

For more than 15 years, we've believed in learning from our past, and sharing the architect's unique perspective on the workings of the world with our peers in archaeology.

We've dug up buildings to document them for the Historic American Building Survey, consulted with archaeologists about how the National Register would treat a historic property thats been unearthed, studied linear features like trail networks and acequias - blending in our passion for landscape into the mix. We've documented petroglyphs in new ways, reverse engineered design criteria from historic places so that we could create a set of guidelines for their preservation, and even documented the importance of archaeo-astronomy through architectural history.

We believe that we can help bring archaeology and architecture to a new level, and in doing so, we create and manifest incredible things together.

Testimonials

"Rachel Preston is a unique life force who can unite technically and spiritually oriented people and can access design problems from both aspects. Rachel is not afraid to go against the grain and propose unique and unconventional designs. Unlike many other designers Rachel can access the 'feeling' perceived in a structure and design for both construction and spiritual concerns. She is receptive to her client's needs and is able to delve deeper into their more difficult feeling sense to meet design needs that may not easily be expressed. She embodies her websites mantra of "sanctuary comes home" to it's fullest extent. Additionally as a civil engineer who quarrels with architects over their designs not fitting with a site, Rachel understands how to design with the contours of the land and make optimal use of the site. Although I am comfortable with building design, I would never design a house without her input."

Quote of the Day

"We fear desire because it can loose us from our moorings, but we need desire because it lets us know who we are."
